Traditional meats from Ensdon Farm, Shropshire
Ensdon Farm is proud to provide honest, natural food at affordable prices to customers that have a real interest in good healthy food. Andrew and Tim Hudson are 5th generation farmers, whose family originated from the mountains of mid-Wales.
We are a traditional mixed farm set in the rolling plains of Shropshire, close to the medieval market town of Shrewsbury. We sell a wide variety of meats.
We sell legendary 'hand made' sausages made on the farm, bacon and succulent beef that has been hung for 21 days so that the meat can reach the peak of flavour and tenderness.
Livestock
Our cattle and pigs live on the farm and have a good life in the rolling hills of the Shropshire countryside. All animals travel to a local family run abattoir in order to minimise stress and then return to the farm where master-butcher John and his team prepare the meat in the time-honoured way.
We care of our animals and we care passionately about the food they provide. Permanent pasture for summer grazing provides the hay to feed our animals in the winter. We also grow oats and barley which is also fed to the animals, helping us to mix the perfect feed for the animals diet.
The beef herd comprises Hereford, Welsh Black and Limousin. We only use heifers since they are preferred by premium beef buyers owing to its 'ultimate' flavour. Heifers mature slowly and have 'sweeter tasting' meat.
Why Ensdon?
Forget the rustic names and country images found on most food products, the food's probably trundled down a conveyor belt in a food factory. The origin of the ingredients is anyones' guess with little 'love and care' going into each step along the way. Our meat is so different because we have lived with the animals and can provide a 'farm to table service'. Love and care certainly pervades every step from farm to table.
